For an evening out Kittitian style there’s only one place on the island I’d recommend – Sprat Net Bar & Grill. This family run, locally loved food spot sits on the coast and is renowned for its grilled seafood. The family catch everything they serve, themselves; so the Sprat Net motto “from net to plate” really does stand.
Located in Old Road Town, the family fish right off the shore there – so they mean it when they say their produce is fresh!

A true taste of St. Kitts…
The menu here is small but it packs a punch. Alongside the seafood options, they also serve BBQ ribs and pizza. Everything comes with a side of baked potato, garlic bread and corn on the cob. I opted for the famed lobster, which was huge, and so filling. Other members of our group ordered the shrimp – again huge and skewered – the ribs and pizza. The grilled fish of the day was also popular when we visited – I spotted it heading to multiple tables and it looked yum! We all taste tested each others plates and there were no complaints all round. It’s honest island grill cooking rather than anything dressed up for tourists.
Plus, the bar serves a range of cocktails to order, but in my opinion, no BBQ meal on St. Kitts is complete without a Carib lager alongside it. So good!

You don’t generally need to book a table here but I definitely would if you’re travelling in larger group. As a smaller family run kitchen, this helps them hugely to manage orders and expectation of any given evening.
Loved Locally…
Sprat Net Bar & Grill isn’t fine dining, and it’s not trying to be. It’s a no frills operation and a place where tourists join the locals for an evening of really good, honest, fresh food, that is cooked to perfection on the grill. It’s a home from home: the plates are cooked with locals in mind, and the atmosphere is designed by them. Laid back vibes, nothing stands on show and the produce and local talent do the talking. This is precisely why it’s worth a visit.
It’s open daily, from Wednesday to Sunday, and as you sit at bench style tables, enjoying your catch of the day, you’ll find your toes tapping to the sounds of live music. We saw a genuinely great local band, that had us up on the dance floor to celebrate the birthday of a local family on the table next to us. We felt the local spirit as everyone came together to sing happy birthday – it really didn’t matter that we were technically ‘outsiders’. The Kittitian hospitality doesn’t judge like that.
The coastal location is also the perfect spot to watch the sun go down. Sprat Net opens from 6pm so if you’re there early enough, you’ll get a great view out over the ocean.
For an authentic taste of island life on St. Kitts, Sprat Net Bar & Grill certainly gets my vote as a must visit.
